About us
The mission of the Science Policy Group at UCLA is to empower early-career scientists to address and advocate for science-driven solutions to societal challenges. We aim to provide professional development tools for science policy, strengthen science communication with the broader community, and advocate for evidence-based, policy-driven solutions. SPG is a student organization that welcomes collaborations with all students, staff, and faculty who are interested in the intersection of science and policy.
As a student-led group, we organize workshops, trainings, and events that give members hands-on experience in science policy, including:
- Advocacy campaigns and meetings with policymakers
- Science policy memo writing projects for publication (e.g., in Journal of Science Policy & Governance)
- Discussions and Q&A sessions with professionals in the field
- Workshops and trainings to develop practical science-policy skills
- Communicating science and policy with public communities through outreach and engagement
To get involved with SPG, please join our Slack workspace and sign up for our mailing list. Our Slack is the hub for learning about upcoming events, ongoing projects, and other science policy initiatives. The newsletter shares resources, opportunities, and SPG updates. We’d love for you to share your ideas, ask questions, or just introduce yourself to our group!
